DJ Back in the Family with New D-League Affiliation
Saturday, June 10, 2006
by FLCeltsFan 1:13 PM
I like having DJ coaching our D League affiliates. I can see Orien Greene spending some time there and feel that he can learn a lot from one of the Celtic Greats. I haven't given up on him because he has the tools and just needs some guidance and work. Would it be a stretch to consider bringing DJ in to coach the Celtics if Doc doesn't work out this year? We could have DJ as head coach and Parish and Clifford Ray as assistants... June 10, 2006
| The National Basketball Association announced this week its affiliation and assignment system for the NBA Development League's 2006-07 season. The Boston Celtics will be affiliated this season with the Austin Toros, who are coached by former Celtics guard Dennis Johnson. Under the system, the Toros will also continue as the affiliate of both the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs. "I am excited with our continued affiliation with the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs and especially thrilled to also be affiliated with the Boston Celtics," said Toros Head Coach Dennis Johnson, who completed eight seasons with the Celtics and helped win NBA titles in 1984 and 1986. "I am happy to be back in the fold and, I guess, I never left the Celtics family," Johnson continued. "I am looking forward to working, again, with the Celtics (and the other two teams) and especially when Danny and Doc send a player down to us. I hope that we can help that player and the franchise."

Ainge keeping eye out for second helpings
by FLCeltsFan 11:06 AM
June 10, 2006
| The NBA’s annual pre-draft camp ended yesterday in Orlando, Fla., with the Celtics in more of a peripheral role than at any other time during Danny Ainge’s tenure as the team’s director of basketball operations. In a camp full of bubble players attempting to move into first-round consideration for the June 28 draft, the C’s spent most of their time assessing what the undrafted free agent list will look like. “We’ve looked at a lot of guys in case we want a second-round pick,” said Ainge, who has gotten the most out of recent second-round selections with the likes of Ryan Gomes, Orien Greene and Justin Reed.[More] source: Boston Herald

The End Came Suddenly
Thursday, June 8, 2006
by Loyalist 3:20 PM
Here is a piece from a few days ago featured in the Boston Herald. For those who may not have checked it out yet.
Enjoy! LoyalistJune 8, 2006
| Robert Parish now believes he saw the era end in a flash during training camp in October of 1987. “Larry (Bird) was working out in camp, and he got undercut,” Parish said of his fellow Hall of Famer. “He had his legs knocked out from under him and he landed on his back. He was never the same. It was the same thing with Kevin (McHale). He turned his ankle from a jump hook, and broke his foot.” [More...] source: boston herald

Dear Green-iacs!
Let's face it, it doesn't get any more quiet this time of year. The buzz of the Draft is slowly building momentum. That's when we come running back to our home here at Celtics Green to a furor of last minute mocks and projections! So, what do we do with ourselves before the words, "...and with the seventh pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, the Boston Celtics Select...(insert your fantasy pick here)"?
Read another great piece by our resident writer, FLCeltsFan!

Are We There Yet? by FLCeltsFanJune 8, 2006
We have all heard arguments on both sides of the state of the Celtics. The pessimists say that we are floundering around and mired in mediocrity. The koolaid drinkers say that we are on the verge of the next championship. But where exactly do the Celtics lie? My guess is somewhere in between. We aren't there yet but are building toward the goal.
We do have some weaknesses and Danny should be able to address them this summer via the lottery pick and free agency. Let's look at each position and see where we stand.
At the point we have Delonte, Greene, Dickau and in a pinch Tony Allen. Delonte stepped up last year and did much better than anyone thought he would. He played decent defense, although he could use some improvement. He was planning on spending some time this summer working with John Lucas. Delonte is a hard worker and I believe he will come back even better next year and will have also developed his right hand. Greene showed flashes of being able to run the team last year and was one of our better defenders.
I still have hopes that he will turn into a decent back up for us. If Danny picks up a PG in the draft or via free agency, Danny should send Greene to the DLeague for some seasoning. Dickau was a disappointment last year even before the injury. His defense was so weak that he was a liability out there. He came in handy as a designated free throw shooter but now that we have Wally, he is definitely expendable. Danny needs to find another PG this summer, preferably a veteran. Jay Williams would be ideal. Speedy Claxton or Brevin Knight would also be possibilities. We need to be 3 deep with quality players at the PG spot. [More...] source:

The Rise and Fall and Rise of a Proud Franchise
Tuesday, June 6, 2006

Let's start our journey into the Celtics draft history with the 1956 draft to get a glimpse into how the Celtics came to dominance. Back then they had anywhere from 8 to 14 rounds in the draft. In 1956, there were 10 rounds and Before the 1956 NBA Draft began, Boston made Tom Heinsohn of Holy Cross a territorial pick.
The territorial system allowed a team to lay automatic claim to a local college player in exchange for giving up its first-round draft position. It was in this draft that Bill Russell was drafted, although not by the Celtics. Auerbach badly wanted Russell, though. He traded Macauley and rookie Cliff Hagan to the St Louis hawks for Russell, who had been drafted second in the draft, behind Sihugo Green.
In the second round Auerbach drafted K. C. Jones. Although Jones couldn't join the Celtics for two years because of military service, this is the beginning of the dominance that would become the Boston Celtics. We will stick with the first round choices unless a player from another round made an impact on the team. [More...]

Four Year Players on Ainge Radar
by FLCeltsFan 12:23 PM
June 5, 2006
| In a perfect world, the furthest thing from Danny Ainge’s mind should be for his Celtics to get even younger. But now that the team’s resident draft master is picking seventh on June 28, it might not hurt to pay particular attention to that dwindling category in the NBA draft - the four-year college player. His Achilles Heal
Sunday, June 4, 2006
by Loyalist 9:37 PM
June 4, 2006
| The ordeal of recovering from a torn Achilles' tendon takes Dan Dickau to Rebound Orthopedic Physical Therapy, where five days a week he goes through a series of rehabilitation exercises.
On this day, the 27-year-old Boston Celtics guard and Vancouver resident steps onto a mini-trampoline. It causes Doug Rosario, his physical therapist, to smile.
"Now, he can barely get up in the air," Rosario said. "But I tease him, he probably couldn't get very high in the air before the injury." [More...] source: columbian

A Courtside View
by Loyalist 4:06 PM
June 4, 2006
| Cedric Simmons and Torin Francis worked out side-by-side for more than an hour Friday morning at the Sports Authority Training Center in Waltham. Roughly the same height and weight, pursuing the same goal of making a positive impression on an NBA team before the June 28 draft, the pair of power forwards have a lot in common. In one major way, however, the pair is a study in contrast. Francis, a Boston native who attended Boston Latin and Tabor Academy, played three years at Notre Dame before declaring for the NBA draft last spring. He went through the draft-camp process, but resisted hiring an agent so he could leave open the possibility of returning to school. After carefully considering the feedback he was getting from teams, he pulled his name out of the draft just days before the deadline to retain eligibility. [More...] source: metro west daily

BOSTON - The invitations were mailed weeks ago. There was no need to RSVP. A Sweet 16 championship had been guaranteed. It was just a matter of time. Yesterday at Boston Garden, the Celtics showed how to throw a party. They didn't just blow out the candles on their way to clinching their 16th championship. They extinguished the misguided Rockets 114-97 to win the final series, 4-2 [More] source: NY Post
