The Foundation Of A Dynasty
Saturday, May 27, 2006
by Loyalist 4:15 PM
May 27, 2006
| It is the greatest dynasty in NBA history. It began 49 years ago. It is still hard to believe.
It started in 1957, when the Boston Celtics defeated the St. Louis Hawks in a tough seven-game series. That was the first of an incredible 11 championships in 13 seasons. Viewed in today’s sports world, it is nothings short of astonishing. And it was the same way at the time. [More] source: celtics.com

Williams Has Questions to Answer
Friday, May 26, 2006
by FLCeltsFan 1:37 PM
May 26, 2006
| As much as Marcus Williams hopes the focus remains on his superb passing and muscular point guard moves, one of the finest playmakers in the history of UConn basketball also knows he carries an unfortunate tag into next month’s NBA draft. The former UConn point guard is the guy who stole the laptops. He has what is known as a character issue. Questions will abound from the media and, more to the point, general managers everywhere. Foye Best PG In Draft?
by Loyalist 1:05 AM
May 25, 2006
| BOSTON - While they are vastly different in what they bring to the table, Randy Foye has separated himself from Marcus Williams and potentially every other guard in this year's NBA Draft. The major question mark concerning the 6-foot-2 1/2 Foye is Williams' strength — which is the ability to run a team and make people better.
However, Foye does just about everything else well — as he displayed earlier in the week in a workout for the Boston Celtics — and most observers feel he can run the show well enough. [More] source: fox sports net

Remembering Len Bias
by Loyalist 12:54 AM
May 25, 2006
| There was no doubt about Len Bias' future, no doubt whatsoever. He was going to prolong the Boston Celtics' dynasty. Learn the ropes from Larry Bird and Co. for a year or two and then forge his own path, become a star in his own right. Allow Red Auerbach to smoke a few more cigars, raise a few more banners.
What was it that Celtics scout Ed Badger told The Washington Post on draft night almost 20 years ago, after Boston made the University of Maryland star the second overall pick? Just this: "He's the closest thing to Michael Jordan to come out (of college) in a long time."[More] source: the mercury news

Day 3 of Draft Workouts: UConn's Williams
by Loyalist 12:20 AM
May 25, 2006
| Several NBA scouts seem to think Marcus Williams is the best NBA-ready, pure point guard available in the upcoming draft, and Thursday he was on hand for draft workouts in Waltham. The lefty guard was said to have impressed NBA personnel around the league a few weeks back during private workouts in Southern California, and he looked good again in his Celtics workout against Northeastern's Jose Juan Berea, Rutgers' Quincy Douby, and Michigan State's Shannon Brown.
Coach Doc Rivers said that today's workout was the best he's seen this week based on how all four players performed. Williams was the highest profile player on hand, and he drew most of the media attention after the workout concluded. [More] source: celtics.com

Gomes Working Hard on His Game
by FLCeltsFan 10:59 AM
May 25, 2006

| PROVIDENCE -- He makes an up-fake, takes one hard dribble to his right, and hits a 15-foot jump shot from the right baseline.
Then he does it again. And again. Then one more time. Before he does the same ball fake, but goes left for a jump shot. Again and again. Over and over.
It's afternoon in Alumni Hall on the Providence College campus and Ryan Gomes is working out. [More] source:Projo

The Seventh Pick Reaction
by Loyalist 12:54 AM
May 24, 2006
| No news was just fine with Celtics director of basketball operations Danny Ainge last night as his team maintained the No. 7 overall pick in the NBA’s draft lottery. Toronto was the evening’s surprise, moving from fifth to first for the June 28 dispersal, while Portland, which finished with the worst record in the league, was relegated to fourth.
“I’m not really disappointed,” Ainge said. “I guess we were holding out some hope for the possibility of moving up in the draft but have been preparing for this position in the draft since the season ended. [More] source: boston herald

The Celtics have pulled the plug on their assistant coaching merry-go-round, opting for a smaller staff than last season. The team began last season with seven assistants, but Kevin Eastman left during the year for a job with Nike. Paul Pressey will move from the bench to Paul Cormier’s advance scout position, though it’s likely Pressey would move on if he is offered a larger role with another team. [More] source:boston herald
