December 14, 2006 The news on the Iverson front is that Philly is asking for too much. Several teams have said they are no longer interested. There are still a few in the running including the Wolves, Heat, and Clippers. While Danny says that there is a slim chance that he comes here, I don't know as I believe him. After all, he said that he wasn't going to trade Antoine only a week before he did it and on the day he brought Wally to Boston, he said he wasn't close on any deals. The Herald and The Globe both have articles to this effect. It is mentioned, however that the Celtics could get involved as a third party. Jackie MacMullen echoes my opinion that we don't need Iverson here no matter what the cost. The Eagle Tribune has a piece on Iverson trade rumors. They quote sources saying that Iverson most wants to go to Minny or Boston. Charlotte may also be involved if a third team is needed. I just wish they would make the trade and end all this speculation. I also hope that they send him someplace besides Boston.
The Herald, MetroWest Daily, and the Globe both report on our win last night in Philly. It was a win that was about defense as much as it was offense. Green played great defense on Korver. We faltered on offense early, but we defended well and that kept us in it. Also, we didn't need Pierce to put in a superhuman effort to win. Our young players are emerging and picking up the slack.
The Herald Notebook gives props to Gerald and Tony for their defense. Also discussed is Wally's return from his ankle sprain and Doc having fun with the Al and Green about the dinner they owe him.
The Globe Notebook starts out with the story that chances are slim that Iverson will come to the Celtics. Although it seems as though it is unlkely, Pierce says he would make it work if Iverson were to come here. He asserts that all stars are a bit selfish but that there is also respect between them. West says that he wants to stay in Boston but if traded to Philly, it wouldn't make him mad. Perk is doing well and walking without his boot. That is good news and hopefully he will be able to come back on schedule.
Philly.com says that West may be the key to the Iverson trade. West has said that he would welcome the chance to play in Philly but loves Boston and would rather stay here. While Danny says that the chances are slim, no one really believes him and Philly may not be getting as much as they hoped for. Also mentioned in the article is that Ray is staying ready to play and hoping for his chance.
Originally King said that he wanted to get the trade done quickly and it was reported that it would happen by Monday or Tuesday at the latest. Now he is saying that he is in no hurry to get it done. This leaves a lot of teams in limbo and players looking over their shoulders. Hopefully it will be settled soon so we can get back to basketball and not chasing rumors.
