Five in a Row!!!!!!!!

December 16, 2006 The Celtics are on a roll and they are doing it with defense. They have won 5 in a row and 4 in a row on the road. All 5 wins have been team wins with the team playing together, playing team defense and finding the open man. And they have done this in spite of being short handed. Ryan Gomes injured his calf in the Philly game and has missed the last two games. Perk, Kandi and Ratliff are all still out. And tonight, Wally re-sprained his ankle after playing only 14 minutes and scoring only 2 points.
After his superhuman effort last night, Tony Allen played 37 minutes and finished with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. He was unable to finish several of his layups and that was probably because he was tired. But he had another solid game and played good defense on Morrison. I like him in the starting lineup and Wally coming off the bench.
Al had another solid game with 22 points, 10 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal. He played good defense inside holding Okafor to 4 of 10 shooting. Scal put in a great effort, playing 40 minutes and finishing with 7 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 block. He played with energy and fought for loose balls and rebounds. Powe played 10 minutes and had a solid performance with 5 points, 2 blocks and 1 steal. He wasn't credited with any rebounds but did tip several out to teammates.
Green had a few rough spots in his 10 minutes but also had some very good moments as well. He finished with 6 points, 3 rebounds and a steal that led to a highlight reel windmill dunk. Pierce had another spectacular game with 35 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 block. He also only had 2 turnovers.
Telfair wasn't spectacular but didn't make a lot of mistakes either. He finished with 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. West played back up point guard and seemed to be a step slow much of the time. He had 14 points to go with 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Doc should play Rondo at the point and West at the 2 guard. I just don't understand why Rondo isn't getting minutes. He seems to play very well when he gets the chance and has even been hitting jumpers when he is open. He should be getting playing time as both Telfair and West have been struggling somewhat. I don't understand why Rondo hasn't been playing.
It was a good game. The momentum swung back and forth but the Celtics are learning how to finish games and how to get stops when they need them. They aren't folding when they get behind and have the ability now to regather when they get down and make runs. Now they have off until Wednesday to heal and rest. If we play defense like we have been and keep playing as a team, we may even have a 6 game win streak by Wednesday next week. Pretty exciting stuff.
ESPN has taken the Celtics-Sixers game off their schedule for Friday next week. We only had a couple of national TV appearances and now they are even taking those away. So sad because the Celtics are just starting to come together and are a very exciting team to watch.
