Doc feels that the Blazers will have an advantage over the Celtics tomorrow night. No, not a better coach. He feels that because the league is switching from the microfiber ball back to the leather ball tomorrow, the Celtics are at a disadvantage.
The Celtics are the only team with back to back games Sunday and Monday. Since they play Sunday and then have to travel, they won't have a chance for a shoot around with the new/old ball. Portland, on the other hand will have a practice with the leather ball before the game.
Celtics officials called the league offices to complain but got no satisfaction. Doc requested that they delay the switch one day for at least the Celtics and Blazers but the switch is still set to go forward tomorrow.
It will be interesting to see what difference, if any the ball will make. With the way the Celtics have been playing, it will be hard to tell.
I don't really know what the big deal is. Its not as if the guys have never used a leather ball before. This is the ball they've played with up until this season, and the ball they actually prefer. A few warm up shots are all they need to readjust to the old ball.
Doc has more important things to worry about--like how to coach.
