Celtics Lose a Close One to the Warriors

December 20, 2006 Celtics lost a close one to Golden State as Pierce was triple teamed on the last shot and failed to find either Allen or West, both of whom were wide open. So much for Pierce trusting his teammates.
Scal missed the game due to an illness. Gomes was back in the starting lineup and Kandi dressed but didn't play. Pierce played 44 minutes and finished with 27 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 turnovers. Pierce had a good game other than that last play. In all fairness, he was fouled at least twice and no call was made. As a matter of fact, the officiating was pretty much one sided all night. They did call a jump ball with .6 on the clock but Pierce was unable to tip it to aq teammate for a shot.
Al and Tony both had solid games again. Al finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks. He was 5 of 7 from the field but unlike the past 4 games, his teammates didn't find him in the paint. They settled more for jumpers and trying to do more themselves. Gomes finished with 14 points but pulled down only 2 rebounds. We really need to get more than 2 rebounds from our starting power forward.
Telfair had 5 points and 5 assists and only 1 turnover. West played most of the minutes at back up point guard and finished with 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and only 1 turnover. He keyed a come back run in the last two minutes that brought the Celtics from 8 down to just 1 down and a chance to win the game. Rondo played only 5 minutes but made every one of them count with 2 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. I still don't understand why this kid isn't on the floor more. The PG's had only 2 turnovers, but the rest of the team more than made up for it. The team had 17 turnovers in the first half alone and finished with 20 for the game. That really hurt us. Tony had 5 turnovers, Pierce had 4, Gomes had 4, and Al had 4, so they were pretty much spread out.
Powe had 13 minutes and Green had 18 minutes. Powe finished with 2 points, 1 rebound, and 1 block. Green had 5 points, 1 rebound and 2 assists. I would like to see both getting regular minutes but that may not be possible when Perk, Kandi, Scal, and Wally come back.
It was a very tough loss because we played with them for most of the game and although we fell behind, we were able to get stops and climb back into the game. We had a great chance to win the game on the last shot, but Pierce blew it by trying to do it all by himself. I watched the end of the Charlotte/NY game and it was tied at 109 at the end of the second OT. The Knicks had the ball out of bounds with less than a second to go. Crawford inbounded the ball toward the basket and David Lee had a perfect tip in just before the buzzer sounded. It is pretty sad when Isaiah can design a much better end of game play than Doc can. Or maybe, the Knicks can execute it better than the Celtics. Either way, it was kind of depressing.
