Celtics Lose Battle of Bottom Feeders

December 7, 2006 As Tommy says, this game was a roller coaster. The Celtics went up by 15 behind some great play by the bench. Then they let the lead slip away and the Grizzlies went up by as many as 17. In the 4th quarter, the Celtics came back from 14 down behind some inspired play by Green and Rondo and tied the game but Rudy Gay hit a shot in the lane to go ahead with 2 seconds left. We lost but the team didn't put its head down and kept playing to the end.
Pierce played 40 minutes but for the most part, was more a part of the problem than the solution. He shot 7 of 17 from the floor and had 9 turnovers. Tony Allen didn't make the best of his start and was pretty much a non factor with 0 points, 2 rebounds and 2 turnovers.
Gomes is such a consistent player. He ended up with 12 points, 1 rebound, and 2 assists. Al had a great game with 9 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 blocks. West was up and down but finished with 12 points, 7 assists and 3 turnovers. Powe played only 7 minutes in spite of our shortage of bigs. He played well in those few minutes with 2 points, 2 rebounds and 1 block. I don't know what this kid has to do to get playing time.
Rondo and Green are the players of the game in my opinion. Rondo came in and picked up the pace of the game and brought energy that had been lacking. He went to the floor several times for loose balls and Pierce would have had 11 turnovers if it wasn't for Rondo hitting the floor to recover the ball that Pierce almost turned over. Rondo finished with 5 assists and 4 steals. Green also brought in energy and finished with 21 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, and 1 block and played some good defense along with Rondo.
A close loss to a team that is struggling and had only 4 wins isn't very encouraging. And it doesn't get any easier with the Suns coming to town on Friday.
