Another Game... Another Close Loss

December 2, 2006 Once again, the Celtics fail to play defense. Once again, the Celtics blow a lead. Once again the Celtics lose. It was our failure to defend once again that sealed the fate of this game.
There were some good individual performances as always. Pierce had 7 assists at the half, doing a great job of finding the open man when he was doubled. He finished with 19 points, 9 assists, and 4 rebounds but he once again turned it over too much for our veteran leader with 3 turnovers.
Gomes just keeps turning in solid performances. He got free under the basket several times to be the recipient of Pierce's assists. He finished with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Perk is still having trouble moving but did finish with 2 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks in 18 minutes. Al had another solid game and seems to be much quicker around the basket finishing very well. He had 14 points, 6 rebounds and 1 block. Scal played very well for about 14 of his 17 minutes. He had 5 points and 0 rebounds, but played solid defense on Bosh, which no one else seemed capable of doing. But for the last 3 or 4 minutes he either started pushing and trying to do too much, or he was just tired. Either way, he started making more mistakes than doing good.
Green had a nice game other than for an ill advised airball three. He finished with 6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks in only 11 minutes. He is also proving that he can play solid defense. This kid needs more playing time!
Telfair had an average game with 7 points, 3 assists, 3 steals and 3 turnovers. West once again was the primary back up point guard but was a bit off all night. He had 14 points on 5 of 9 shooting but could have done that from the SG position because he had no assists and 4 turnovers. Rondo did get in the game for 2 minutes but when you play a minute here and a minute there, there is no way you can get into the flow of the game.
Powe once again remained on the bench even though we were facing a team with a big front line and we could have used his defense in the paint and his rebounding. I just don't understand this move unless Doc is showcasing certain players for a trade and Powe is being kept under wraps.
Pierce and Wally were both injured in the game. Pierce came down on his elbow and played afterward, but the elbow swelled and will be evaluated today. Wally came down on his ankle on the last play of the game and limped off the court afterwards. The early reports is that it is a sprain and he will also be evaluated today.
