Defense Keys Win Over Pacers

The Celtics finally played defense tonight with a positive result. The Celtics played the Pacers pretty evenly during the first half, up only 2 at the half. They came out in the third, playing with passion and defensive intensity and built a lead that this time they didn't give up. They finished with a 114-88 win.
Tonight there were more than a few positives. Just about every Celtic contributed to this win. Perk was huge in this game, intimidating in the paint. He played with passion and played hard and finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks in 28 minutes. His defense set the tone for the game.
Gomes played yet another solid game with 12 points, 12 rebounds, 3 steals and a block in 28 minutes. He always seems to be around the play and has an uncanny knack to be there for the rebounds. Gomes played some solid defense as well.
Rondo won the Tommy Award tonight. He set the tone for the game and just plays solid ball. He finished with 5 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals. This kid brings energy and defense and sets the tone for the team. We are a better team when he is in the game. Telfair also played well and finished with 6 assists.
Powe backed up his sensational game on Monday with an other solid effort with 5 points and 4 rebounds in 10 minutes. He also played good defense and was able to deter several shots with his physical play.
Pierce had the quietest 32 points I have ever seen. I was really surprised to see that he scored that much because he did it in the flow of the game and didn't force anything. He also had 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Wally finished with 20 points and 4 rebounds.
Delonte had only 2 points on a coast to coast slam, but he played solid defense and finished with 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
This is the way I knew this team was capable of playing. I hope that they will come out the same way and play team defense against Portland on Friday and we will have another win. Defense is the key and tonight they finally got it. I have to say that Perk and Rondo set the defensive tone and the rest of the team rose to their level. I just hope they can build on this and go on a run.
There is much joy in Celticsville tonight.
