The Celtics won their second game in a row, beating the Blazers easily. For the second game Doc got all of his players into the game, including Allen Ray. It seems that the Celtics are gaining confidence and are discovering that defense wins games.
Gomes played very well even though it doesn't show in the box score. It was his job to contain Zach Randolph and that took up a lot of his energy. His shot wasn't falling, but he contributed considerably on defense. He got some help defending in the paint from Perk and Powe, both having very good games. Perk finished with 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 blocks. Powe finished with 9 points 6 rebounds and 1 block. The highlight of the the game for me was Powe's 2 dribble dunk from the top of the key. I am sure I will see it on the Top 10 Plays of the Day.
Pierce played within the team for the second game in a row and finished with 29 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Wally chipped in with 19 points and 3 rebounds. Telfair had 15 points and 7 assists. Rondo was once again solid with 8 points, 3 steals, and 4 rebounds. His defense, as always, was great.
Gerald Green and Delonte West were playing on a small ball team in the 4th that played with great energy. West had a break out game shooting 7 for 12 and finishing with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks. He seemed to be everywhere. Hopefully he will be the third scoring option that we have been needing. Green came in and scored 9 points to go with 3 assists and 3 rebounds. Scal had a good game and again, it doesn't show in the box score, but he was active on defense and played well.
Since this was the first of back to back games, it was very good that the second team played so well and the starters got to sit out the 4th quarter. Things are coming together. The team is playing defense and even with Al, Ratliff and Kandi out, they are defending in the paint and playing very well. We can only get better when Al comes back. He is planning on practicing on Monday, which is very good news. Excellent game tonight. Hopefully we can build on it and win 3 in a row.
Very encouraging win. The past 2 games have been very encouraging, as we have limited the amount of points we give up and we have scored 114 and 118 points. Its been some time since we put together back to back games as lopsided as this, and we get a chance to build upon this success even more as we take on the Knicks tonight.
