Steve Bulpett is reporting that the Celtics have worked a deal with the Cavaliers that will send Center Dwayne Jones to the Cavs for guard/forward Luke Jackson and cash considerations.
I am not sure why we need another guard/forward. I really like Jones and think that this will be a mistake down the line. 6'11" centers who can rebound and block shots aren't as easy to come by as are 6'7" guard/forwards. And this still leaves us with 18 players on the roster with 3 having to be cut. I would have expected a two for 1 trade if anything. If anything, this is a lateral move, and a puzzling one at that.
Jackson played in 10 games his rookie season and 36 last season. He has averaged only 7.8 mpg and averaging 2.7 ppg and 1 rpg per game. He played 10 minutes against the Celtics last Tuesday night in Cleveland, going 0-for-3 from the field and 1-of-2 from the line. And to make it even more puzzling, the guy has back problems. If anything, this is a lateral move, and a puzzling one at that. I just don't see giving up a promising center for another swingman that showed promise but has struggled in the NBA and has a history of injuries. And, he will definitely need a new number. The Globe reports that he will be available tonight and will wear number 11. [More] source:Boston Herald [Globe Article] Discuss this topic on the Celtics Green Forums!
