September 11, 2006 This is excellent news!! Danny was very smart to lock him up now instead of waiting for the end of the season. Perk is going to have a break out year this season and will be worth much more on the market next summer. 4 years at 4 million a year is a bargain!!!!
| The Celtics have reached agreement with Kendrick Perkins on a four-year contract extension, the Herald has learned today. According to sources, the 6-10 center, just three years out of Clifton J. Ozen High School in Texas, will receive around $4 million per year beginning with the 2007-08 season, though incentives could enrich the deal. It was reported here in July that director of basketball operations Danny Ainge had spoken with Perkins’ agent to see if something along these lines could be worked out. Perkins, 21 (he won’t be 22 until November 10), averaged 5.2 points and 5.9 rebounds in 68 games last season, getting a modest 19.6 minutes a night. He missed 13 games in February and March after suffering a dislocated left shoulder in practice and had surgery on the area in the offseason. Perkins will make $1,689,409 this coming season - the last year of his rookie contract. [More] source:Boston Herald
