LAS VEGAS - Danny Ainge’s confidence in working out a new deal for Paul Pierce isn’t a unilateral concept.
Pierce’s agent confirmed he and the Celtics are on pace to reach their mutual goal of getting the captain signed to an extension.
“We’ve been talking and we’ve been making progress,” Jeff Schwartz said.
Pierce has two years remaining on his current contract, but he can opt out of it and become a free agent next summer. Schwartz dismissed talk that Pierce might like to take that route and join a team with a better chance at the title.[More] source: Herald
They are talking about putting a no trade clause or trade kicker of some sort in it. I am thinking that if PP signs the contract and really does want to stay in Boston, he will ask for some kind of no trade clause to prevent that.
I think Pierce is really contemplating his decision. We are all optimistic about our future because we have a lot of young and talented players. But there is a chance that they won't pan out, and Pierce will be stuck on a team he doesn't want to be a part of.
