There is still smoke about the Iverson trade. Most reports say that the Celtics are their best bet to trade him, but there are also reports of the Clippers and Nuggets also making offers. Reports are that King was ready to trade on draft night to get Foye but Danny realizing that he wouldn't have a shot at him picking behind Minny wisely opted for the Telfair deal instead. Danny has said that he will only trade if the price is right and also that he won't trade the future to win a few games now. If we can believe him, then the price tag for Iverson may just be too much. The Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that the Celtics have expressed interest in a sign and trade for Gooden. Cleveland hasn't offered him a contract yet and Boston along with Philly, Phoenix and Chicago are reportedly showing interest. I would much sooner sign Gooden than AI... Hopefully Boston's interest isn't in Gooden as the 3rd part of the Iverson team since Philly is also interested.
Not sure why Danny Ferry (Cleveland's GM, not Danny Ainge) is looking to move Drew Gooden. But if he is planning to do that, I'm almost certain that he will want Wally Szczerbiak. Not trying to be racist, but he does seem to like white guys who can shoot the ball. This is the same guy who traded a future 1st round pick to us for Jiri Welsch. This is the same guy who drafted Luke Jackson with a lottery pick in '04.
I'm sure their salaries will match up pretty well (Wally's and Gooden's). The thing is, Jefferson and Gooden are pretty much identical players--offensive PF's with good touch.
He's only 24 yrs old and has 5 years of NBA experience under his belt. He is a proven rebounder and a solid scorer.
I think Doc will experiment with a 2-PF frontcourt. We'll be lacking height (both Gooden and Jefferson are 6'8" ~ 6'9"), but both of them are pretty quick and nimble for their size, which will help accentuate our uptempo style of basketball. Rebounding wise, I think both can handle their own, with occassional missed rebounds because they are undersized. Defensively, we'll be adequate--neither guy will be swatting a ton of shots. But we have Theo Ratliff and Perkins should we need shot blockers.
We better wait and hear more of this possible trade before we get ahead of ourselves.
