Iverson off the Trading Block

July 26, 2006 It appears that King is through testing the trade waters with his star. It always struck me as odd that Danny was so open about wanting to trade for Iverson. Danny has never tipped his hat as far as trades go. In fact, he has denied trades right up until they were announced. So why so forthcoming about the Iverson dealings? My guess is that he knew that what he was offering wasn't enough and there was no chance of it going through. In the meantime, while everyone is focused on Iverson, Danny is free to work on the trade he really wants without all the speculation. He has been stockpiling even more youth lately and seems poised to make a 3 or 4 for 1 deal. In any case, I am hoping that King really does keep Iverson. He just doesn't fit the Celtic mold.
| After coming ever-so-close to trading Allen Iverson before last month's NBA draft, the 76ers and Billy King found offers from other teams for the superstar guard to be insufficient or downright laughable in the weeks since then.
So King has decided to end all the suspense over whether Iverson will be going elsewhere after a 10-year run in Philadelphia, saying yesterday that he has taken Iverson's name off of the trading block.
"I expect him to be on the roster at the start of training camp," the Sixers president and general manager said.
