Green knows he has work to do

July 11, 2006 Danny says that he thinks that Gerald will be a special player. I agree. We need to give him time to grow to see it. We are too often impatient and want a player to contribute immediately. But picking mid first round, to get that special player you have to take a chance on a guy who will be special but who will take a couple of years to develop. If we don't give up on him, we will reap the benefits of staying with him.

The point may seem subtle, but to Green and his hopes of playing a larger role with the Celtics, it is perhaps the most significant. “Offensively he has to learn how to score with the team,” said C’s coach Doc Rivers. “Right now the only way he scores is if you give him the ball and then stand around and watch.
