Steve Bulpett today mentions that Cleveland would like to get Delonte West. According to Danny, there is a lot of interest in West out there. I can understand why. He is a very talented player who can play the 1 or the 2 and who can block shots and rebound. I don't know if Danny's reply can be taken to mean that Delonte isn't available, or if Cleveland just hasn't offered anything for him. Could be Danny is building up the value for him by getting the word out that there is a lot of interest in him. Perhaps this along with the rumors that Danny had interest in Gooden can be put together. I would hate to lose Delonte but I can see where Danny may have been preparing for it by signing 2 PGs and Allan Ray, even though we really didn't need another SG.
Word is strong that Cleveland would like to get its hands on West.
“Yeah, them along with 29 other teams,” Ainge said. “But that hasn’t even been discussed.” . . . More] source: Herald
We may not want to see him go, but we are at a point where we need to start updating our top 5 players on the team. Using Delonte in a trade package could help upgrade our talent level among the top 5.
Delonte is a lot of things (probably highest on the list is how hard he plays), but his eventual role on the team was a bench player. If he can help us land a star quality player (preferably at the 4 or 5), it will help us take a step forward toward #17.
