Nor are the names under discussion; the only one that caught me off guard was Paul Pierce. Asked to confirm or deny that the supposed Celtic-for-life is back on the block in exchange for an elite draft pick, a certified point guard and, no doubt, another goodie or two, a team official said, "Our intention is to extend Pierce and currently we are in the process of working on that." Vecsey always seems to be heading these Pierce trade rumors. Like he has a vendetta to get Pierce traded. While I will admit that I don't think Pierce is guaranteed to be a Celtic beyond this year, I do think that Pierce is closer to getting a contract extension now, than he was a year ago. His terrific year has put him in a better spot to receive an extension.

Yeah, you could look at it that way. Either way, Pierce is in position to make himself a big contract after this one expires. It'll either come from us, or some other team.
