The big rumors today center around Danny and Philly talking about a trade of Iverson. It seems as though Philly is the one doing the contacting but you know the old saying... where there is smoke there is fire. Danny likes AI but I don't see Iverson fitting on our team. He is a tough player and a very good one but the attitude is all wrong. And just as Danny said that Ricky and PP were too much the same player, it seems as though AI and Pierce wouldn't be a good fit unless they let us play with 2 basketballs this year.
A recent conversation between the Celtics and 76ers concerned a possible trade involving Allen Iverson, according to a league source. Trade talk between teams usually increases as the draft approaches. For now, it appears the conversation was just one of many commonly held by teams at this time of year. The same source said no deal was on the table, or even close to being considered. Per standing policy, Celtics executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge declined to comment on rumors.
The latest wrinkle has Boozer going to Philly, Sczerbiak to Utah, Pierce to Minnasotta and both Garnette and Iverson to Boston. Obviously there would be lots of picks and cap fodder thrown in, but Jared Cantin at Celticsstuff worked out a detailed scenario that might come close to satisfying all parties. Would you think that Garnette and AI would work together btter than Pierce and AI?
Whew! That gives blockbuster a new meaning. I just don't see Iverson and Pierce coexisting on the same team. AI and Garnett may fit together better, though. And Ainge and McHale getting together to watch workouts together could be a front for trade talks.
It seems that rumors are coming from every direction. This one took me off guard because it was in Boston, Philly and Chicago papers this morning so it made me wonder if there were some legs to it.
My goodness, I can't take the excitement. I do think Iverson and Garnett can work together. For a chance to win a title together, I think they'll learn how to best work together. But are we going to blow up our entire youth plan for 2 players in their 30's with a lot of mileage (KG is just about to turn 30). Are we going to give up Jefferson, Green, Perkins, Allen, Gomes, and Delonte?
But honestly, I don't think we can get both Iverson and KG for just Pierce and Wally. I'm sure we are going to have to give up a lot of our young pieces, probably including Jefferson and Green.
