Ryan Gomes assumed the position. He stood under the basket and demonstrated how he holds the basketball as he prepares to take a shot. He showed the positioning of the feet, and the classic 'L' shape of the shooting arm as he prepares to launch the ball toward the basket.
A youngster, maybe about five years old, raised his hand. He had a question.
"My shoelace is untied," said the little one. "Will you tie it?"
The 6-foot-7 power forward with the Boston Celtics and member of the NBA all-rookie team dropped to his knees and tied the youngster's sneaker. He picked up the ball again and got back to the business of teaching little kids how to play the game.
I want Gomes to have a big role off the bench next year. He's the type of guy championship teams have on the bench--guys who can come in and rebound, score around the basket, and play smart basketball.
Ainge needs to sign him up quickly. Don't waste time extending his contract extension. Do it now!!
