The Celtics currently have the #7 pick in this year's NBA draft. While it's possible that a pre-draft trade could change our drafting position, it seems appropriate to take a quick look at the statistical history of the #7 pick.

There have been many significant number 7 picks, led by the Celtics all-time scoring leader John Havlicek (Boston, 1962), and including current NBA players Kirk Hinrich (Chicago, 2003), Richard Hamilton (Washington, 1999), and Charlie Villanueva (Toronto, 2005), among others. In addition, there have been some more forgettable picks, such as Ollie Johnson (Boston, 1965) and Al Bunge (Philadelphia, 1960), neither of whom played a single NBA minute. But not every #7 pick can be an Hall of Famer, and most will actually end up being contributing members of NBA teams. So what should we expect from the #7 pick in the draft? Most likely, it'll come down to 3 players: Randy Foye, Patrick O'Bryant, or Marcus Williams.

Foye can probably make the most impact at the impact at PG because he is a scorer, an aggressive player, and a defensive presence. Marcus Williams is the best option to get our offense flowing smoothly, and O'Bryant (if he has that inner drive) has a chance to be our starting Center if he proves to be more valuable on the court than Perkins.

From the articles I have read about O'Bryant, that is the one thing they question about him.

I have no doubt that Danny will take BPA when it comes his turn to pick. If the BPA happens to be a PG or a Big that will be great. If it is a wing, we may see a trade coming.

I have this feeling that Williams will be our pick at 7. It seems like we are going for that PG that Marcus Banks was supposed to be. Kinda ironic, the two Marcus'.

I agree. Marcus Williams just seems like a Boston guy (maybe because of UCONN being so close by).

Is anybody worried about his defense? I don't think its as bad as may be written, but he will have a hard time against quick PG's like Ridnour, Parker, etc.

i have always thought that one team cannot field two goys with the same name. just doesn't feel right. so i take it as another good sign that one marcus has left paving path for the other to arrive

You may have a point there, BC. Maybe that's why Ainge was trying to trade "Paul" Pierce in order to get Chris "Paul".

Can you imagine? "Nice give and go, from Paul to Pierce."
