As much as Marcus Williams hopes the focus remains on his superb passing and muscular point guard moves, one of the finest playmakers in the history of UConn basketball also knows he carries an unfortunate tag into next month’s NBA draft. The former UConn point guard is the guy who stole the laptops. He has what is known as a character issue. Questions will abound from the media and, more to the point, general managers everywhere. Lets see. Marcus is a better passing PG with not much quickness and defense. Randy Foye is a better scoring PG who is strong, quick and is said to be a good defensive player.
Williams was also said to be a fearless slasher however. But he has an attitude like he's already made the NBA and I don't like it. Not to say I don't like UConn or his game, but I would still take Foye.
Williams is not a fearless slasher. He's a crafty penetrator, but I question how effective he can be penetrating against NBA PG's with his quickness. I wouldn't say he's slow, but he's not much faster than say Anthony Johnson or Jamal Tinsley.
But he is a terrific passer with terrific court vision. If we had a strong defensive team behind of him to cover up for his lack of defense, I think he could work here.
