2006/07 Estimated NBA Salary Cap: $52 million
Roughly: $4 million over cap...The Good: The best thing you can say about the new-look Celtics is that they have some nice young talent to build with. And as we all know, young talent plays for very cheap.

It'll be interesting to see if management gives Pierce a contract extension. I'm sure they want to, but I get a feeling that Ainge may not be 100% sure about this. Ainge may want to be flexible because of the talent we have at the wings. With Gerald Green, Wally Szczerbiak, and Tony Allen behind of Pierce, Ainge may want to keep the option of trading Pierce for a big time PG or Center open. I can see why management and fans want to secure Pierce for the longterm--he's a high level talent and Boston loves him. But if Gerald can come close to his level in 4 - 5 years, we're going to have 2 big money players playing the wing positions and if we aren't champions by then, we are stuck.
